Each of the listed types of systems is typically identified with specific proprietary software, which means you get locked into a specific vendor. While large companies are able to sign maintenance contracts with these vendors to reduce technical support costs, it is much like purchasing insurance. An owner is still required to pay the monthly fee even if there is no service provided. Over the course of my career in Information Technology I have worked in various departments of Building Operations, servicing all of these systems. I have worked with various Energy Management Systems, Fee Parking Software and Installation of Access Control Systems, including security cameras with Digital Video Recording.
